Oshawa does not end at Taunton Rd. It has thousands of voters in Durham Riding. So I’m always surprised and disappointed when elected representatives for Durham Riding are left out. Even Oshawa's Mayor has been remiss in including Durham Riding's MP and MPP in various Oshawa functions and notices.
As a local city representative of one of the two Oshawa Wards encompassing the vast area north of Taunton Rd, I will continue to remind others of this because it's important to have the wider viewpoint: all of Oshawa north of Taunton Rd. is in Durham Riding, both Provincially and Federally.
In fact, geographically more than half the City of Oshawa is in Durham Riding (check out the map below, knowing Oshawa is a rectangle, fyi the distance from Lake Ontario to Taunton Rd. is 11 km, whereas the distance from Taunton Rd. to Coates Rd, the City's northern limit, is 14 km)
Come election day, on September 20, a mere 23 months after the last federal election, my family, neighbours and all residents of Oshawa's Ward One will NOT have any of the candidates named in this Oshawa election article on the ballot https://oshawaexpress.ca/your-oshawa-candidates-for-the.../
Of course, if the article had the word 'Riding' added to the title "Your Oshawa Candidates For the 2021 Federal Election" it technically would have been correct. However imo too many miss a large part of what Oshawa is — made up of two Provincial and Federal ridings.
By the way, one name that Oshawa's Durham Riding voters will see on the ballot for sure is 48 year-old Erin O'Toole, leader of Canada's Official Opposition.
It is very special and something to celebrate that Canadians guard their freedom to choose whichever individual, political party and/or philosophical views they want to support during elections — or even go down the other road if that's their wont, such as ridiculing the clothes a politician wears, twisting politician's names into scornful monikers, and railing against one, two or more of the 5 registered Parties on the Federal ballot and any or all political platforms.
In this election, the northern half of Oshawa is represented by the Official Leader of the Opposition in Canada, placing him in a position of becoming the next Prime Minister— something I point out because it is A REMARKABLE FIRST FOR OSHAWA AND DURHAM REGION!
