Mary Simon named as Canada's 1st INDIGENOUS GOVERNOR GENERAL.
Responding to journalist questions about her objectives as new GG, she said she will be sitting with many people to develop a vision for all Canadians to work in a way for people to have freedom to express themselves the way they want; and to work together not against each other and renew our relationships.
The PM and Mary Simon made the announcement at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Que. this morning.
Simon is an Inuk leader and former Canadian diplomat. She "has been an advocate for Inuit rights and culture, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada. She has worked alongside the federal government on several files over many years, including as an Arctic ambassador."
The PM said she was chosen from among 100 very well qualified Canadians to represent the Queen in Canada
