Oshawa residents are starting to receive their final 2020 property tax bill in the mail.
1st call today from a concerned senior taxpayer, thinking there was some mistake, asking how could her taxes go up $456 in one year.
Now this 80 year old will be paying $610 a month in property taxes. It is a problem. She thought the increase had to do with COVID-19, I said regrettably no, COVID-19 may be impacting the 2021 budget, but the 2020 budget was completed in December 2019.
When some on Council have said things in the past like, the increase is just the cost of a coffee a day...or something like that, they should realize it is cumulative and there comes a tipping point!
