Congratulation to Jamil Jivani, for winning the Durham Riding by-election yesterday!
Interestingly, for the next federal election the name and boundaries of this riding will be changed. The Constitution of Canada requires that every 10 years, after the census is conducted, the number of electoral districts and their boundaries are revised to reflect population shifts and growth. After studies conducted by the federal election commissions, among the many riding boundary changes that were proposed and recently made final, the next federal election will have the current Durham Riding changed in 2 big ways. Currently it includes north Oshawa (north of Taunton Rd.) all of Clarington and Scugog Township. It will be renamed BOWMANVILLE-NORTH OSHAWA Riding; and it will not include Scugog Twp., which will form part of a new LAKE SIMCOE-UXBRIDGE Riding
