The City’s NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT GUIDE (N.T.M.G.) is expected soon.
Backstory: Just after being elected, following up on one of my campaign platforms — to address speeding, traffic intrusion and road safety, on January 28 2019 I made the motion for an update to the 2006 Oshawa Neighbourhood Traffic Management Guide. https://www.oshawa.ca/residents/neighbourhood-traffic-management-guide.asp Council approved hiring a consultant for this. The IBI Group presented Phase 1 of the Study at a Special Council meeting last fall.
Here's a link to view all 19 of the Phase I PowerPoint slides: https://www.oshawarosemary.com/blog/oshawa-launches-a-traffic-calming-study-for-new-neighbourhood-traffic-management-plan
Slide 13 (copied below) has some potential new devices for discussion, which could be implemented.
This fall Phase 2 of the Study should present preliminary findings and recommendations for Council’s review and comment. Therefore, in the next couple of weeks residents might want to reach out to the City and Consultant Project Managers, and their elected representatives to make their neighbourhood traffic concerns known.
The goal of the Study is to put in place the right recommendations to address speeding, volume and traffic safety concerns in all Oshawa neighbourhoods.
According to the City's N.T.M.G. webpage for the on-going process "THE PROJECT TEAMS CAN BE REACHED AT ANY TIME through the City and the Consultant Project Managers": They are:
Brian Cox, Traffic Engineering Technologist, City of Oshawa 905-436-3311 ext. 2371 email BCox@oshawa.ca and
Matt Colwill, Consultant Project Manager, IBI Group 1 416 596 1930 ext. 61375 mcollwill@ibigroup.com
Among the many traffic management concerns raised by Ward 1 residents which I have responded to in the past 32 months, Grandview St. N. remains problematic. Even after I advocated for the All Way Stop signs at Grandview/Esterbrook and Greenhill (which were installed last November) and radar message boards on a rotating basis, plus calls to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) for increased enforcement
(fyi Ward 1’s DRPS traffic consultant is very responsive to calls: Constable Dave Ricard phone: 905 579-1630 Ext 1629 email dricard@drps.ca )
Imo it seems appropriate to have the section from Conlin Rd. to Coldstream which is 50km now reduced to 40km if enough area residents are interested. Concerning this, please email Clerks@Oshawa.ca and RMcConkey@Oshawa.ca asking the City Clerk to add your letter to the Agenda for the September 20, 2021 Community Services Committee meeting.
