Some very welcome and inspiring good news today! Habitat for Humanity is starting construction next month for its biggest affordable housing project in Durham Region to date - the 50 unit project on Nomandy Dr. Oshawa!
CEO Ene Underwood; VP Real Estate Joshua Benard and Board Member Lorraine Huinink presented an update on the work that Habitat has been doing in Durham Region since the amalgamation of Habitat Durham and Habitat GTA at the beginning of 2020. And a lot has been happening. The 28 unit freehold units on Centre St. S. are complete.
The 50 new stacked condo townhouse units being built on Normandy St. and Dean Ave will include 10 fully accessible ground floor units!
Habitat has a unique equity sharing model to help give disadvantaged families desiring home ownership a hand up!
Engaging the first 18 families for Phase 1 is well underway. As seen in the attached site plan and artist rendering there is a 3 storey 18 unit Block, and beside it a 3 storey 16 unit Block, and in the middle will be 2- 8 unit Blocks, with an adjacent greenspace amenity area.
Habitat will be copying the success of their 140 Pinery Trail 49 unit complex built in Scarborough in 2019 (pictured at the bottom of the last slide below). Also Habitat is finalizing another affordable housing with a developer partner in Clarington!
