Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee (OAAC) Meeting was long, but covered some important items:
1. Re-election of Chair Steven Moenster and Vice Chair Gino Vendetti
Congrats are in order to them both for their leadership in advancing accessibility in Oshawa!
2. GOLD POINT NATURE RESERVE Design Plan for this new passive park development at S/W corner of Philip Murray Dr. and Stevenson Rd. adjacent to Lakefront West Park and the Waterfront Trail. (Area well-known to be habitat for BUTTERFLIES)
Design details reviewed include:
a) 2.4m wide asphalt path with 0.5m mown shoulder on either side. b) 1.8 m secondary limestone screened pathways.
c) accessible benches located along the trail where technically feasible.
3. TRAIL DESIGN (3m wide) along tributary of the Oshawa Creek for the section between Dance Act Ave and Britannia Ave, W. This is the 1st 'South Section' of the planned 800 meter trail in the Tribute Windfields subdivision west of Simcoe which extends north from Britannia Ave W. to Windfields Farm Drive W. along east tributary of the Oshawa Creek.

1319 AIRPORT BLVD. new 4 storey HOTEL (type of a HILTON) + 4 storey Office building and restaurant
These 2 site plans were reviewed for accessibility, which includes, for example, reviewing
a) clear paths of travel made of a surface that is firm and stable and a minimum of 1800mm, with rest areas required for distances of travel greater than 30m,
b) accessible power doors;
c) reasonable lighting levels, all ramps, steps and stairs to be evenly lighted and lighting fixtures or posts not encroach on accessible paths of travel
d) adequate number of accessible parking spaces in an appropriate location with proper signage
RE the new commercial 5 storey building for Transbiz Truck Training Centre at 797 Wilson Rd S. and Raleigh Ave. see rendering and site plan below.
RE the new 4 storey 98 unit HOTEL and new 4 storey Restaurant and Office building at 1319 Airport Blvd. planned for empty lot beside the Mandarin Restaurant, between Taunton Rd. W. and Aviator Lane, expect a separate post shortly with more details.
