The City of Oshawa has had no Committee meetings for the past 10 weeks. Since the City has been operating under the Emergency Delegation of Authority By-law that gives exclusive power to the Mayor and CAO, passed by Council March 13, 2020 and extended April 15th (which I voted against), during this time a number of public matters have been off the radar for the 10 elected Oshawa Councillors.
Yes, during COVID-19, I'm sure like other Oshawa Council members similarly have been occupied, I have had numerous and varied resident issues to respond to and work at resolving. As well, I have shared ideas with staff and colleagues, assisted individuals at-risk, and been involved in lending a hand supporting various civic organizations in different ways.
However, the only times Councillors have had actual policy input and oversight so far during this extraordinary time was the 1st electronic Council meeting April 27, and now with this upcoming mega meeting Monday May 25.
With the many staff Reports and items of interest on the Agenda for Monday's Council meeting (see all 42 Public reports and 8 closed meeting Reports listed below), during this transition time when the Province is gradually lifting its mandated shutdowns and the City begins reopening, my hope is that Council's upcoming decisions can help toprovide a strong, clear and safe path to restart and renew public service, business plans and strategies.
