The City Clerk and the City Solicitor have confirmed that the legislated powers granted to the Mayor under the Emergency Management By-law, as amended, enable the Mayor to enact these measures.
Yesterday the Durham Area Treasurers met via phone, including the City’s Commissioner of Finance Services. The measures implemented by the City are consistent with those of the other municipalities in the Region of Durham. In addition to the measures stated above, the Treasurers agreed to propose:
· The April 2020 taxation due date remains as currently billed.
· That NSF and PAP related fees will be waived (the authority to waive these fees is already delegated to the Treasurer).
The municipalities would also like to request the Province to delay the School Board levy payment due dates. The next payment due date is March 31st 2020 and the amount to be remitted is approximately $15 million. The Mayor will send a letter to the Province to make the request as proposed
