It's National AccessAbility Week, May 26 - June 1st, and after the Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee (OAAC) new flag (with new logo) was raised, there was a wonderful event this evening in the Council Chamber!
In addition to presenting the winning designer of the OAAC logo competition, Bonnie Chow, with her award, the City of Oshawa awarded the following businesses, organizations and citizens for helping to promote inclusion and for their work towards making Oshawa a barrier free community! (and there was a cake cutting ceremony in the hallway before the meeting, notice in the picture, the cake had the new OAAC logo too!

Lisa Hart, Chair of the OAAC provided a report of the past work term details and accomplishments. There were also several very informative speakers:
1/ the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Word (CCRW) which helps persons with disabilities, including a special program for youth with autism, help find jobs Website: ccrw.org
2/ representatives from Participation House Durham, which has an extraordinary training program for adults with developmental disabilities. Website: phdurham.com
3/ citizens with life experience who spoke of gaps and challenges in addressing accessibility, especially related to Durham Region Transit issues.
