2021 Budget Deliberations resume today. Virtual Council meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.
There are a couple reports added to the agenda, one is a follow-up to items discussed during the November 27th Budget meeting and there are 4 items on it:
1) The $100,000 capital project for the Ed Broadbent park sign has morphed into fully completing the Phase 1 redevelopment which is approximately $2 million. For this it is proposed to take the $1.2 million of the Harbour Reserve (which will be the balance at the end of 2021) plus transfer $300,000 out of 2021 Operating Reserve, and add to $250,000 from the 2022 Budget Reserve to fund the costs for the Phase 1 redevelopment.
2) Pavement preservation - preventative sealing. Staff identified the need for an additional $25,000 per year to the annual $100,000 put aside for the road sealing, as the City’s road network grows and :consider moving forward with a future project amount of $125,000 per year as part of 2022 Capital Budget submission."
3) Re my motion to improve the sidewalk on the south side of King St. at the bridge between Midtown Mall Dr. and Queen St. some success "Staff will address the minor deficiencies as soon as possible with asphalt overlay funded through Operations branch budget".
4) My motion to allocate the $75,000 to fund a basketball park in each of the 5 Wards was called premature and needing a study, (funny how that $300,000 (5 x $75,000 =$300,000) for something in 5 parks reflects so ironically to the $300,000 top-up in the park in 1 above)
The other item is a request from Parkwood to share in the $400,000 cost 50-50 = $200,000 ($100,000 over 2 years) for a Two Stage Project, one being reconstructing an outdoor arbor built in the 1980s and the other being a renovation to the Carriage House for a Welcoming Centre with homage to GM Canada http://app.oshawa.ca/.../city.../2020/12-04/fin-20-72.pdf
