This year, the Oshawa Remembrance Day ceremonies were once again virtual, with no parade, and a smaller live tribute at Memorial Park.
It seemed there were some conflicting signals, with downtown road signs saying Simcoe St. S. will be closed from 10 till 12 and the City's media advisory stating: "The ceremony will not feature a parade or gathering in Memorial Park. " and "please do not to travel to Memorial Park to attend the ceremony in person" because there certainly were some mixed signals.
Deputy Mayor Bob Chapman was Master of Ceremonies, Mayor Carter, MP Colin Carrie and Councillor Marimpietri attended, as well as members of the Royal Canadian Legion 637 and 43, and members of the Military museum who brought a few tanks.
A few hundred Oshawa residents joined to pay their respects.
There were some nice speeches during this 2021 virtual Remembrance Day ceremony.
A few mentioned that this year is the 100th anniversary of the Poppy emblem for remembrance...that in1921 Canada was the first country in the world to use the poppy to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our future.

Dear Friend,
Stand Tall and Proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of
Summer
The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!
