Not a note about yesterday's meeting HIGHLIGHTS, but about a meeting NO LIGHTS!
At Oshawa Community Services Committee meeting yesterday morning, my Notice of Motion for TRAFFIC LIGHTS at SIMCOE ST. N. & COATES RD. hit a high speed 4-2 vote not to refer it to staff. With no discussion, it was a BONE CRUSHING FREEZE OUT.
Coates Road is the municipal boundary road between the Township of Scugog and the City Oshawa, at the top of the ridges. It is a road under the jurisdiction of both municipalities. Simcoe St. is a Regional Road. Ultimately traffic lights at this intersection will be a Region of Durham project. But the two lower tier municipalities could be/should be taking the steps to advance this at the Region.
Of course I will continue to push for traffic lights at Simcoe & Coates Rd., not just because it is in my Ward 1, but because very time I drive through I see how much more it is needed with increased traffic and safety concerns, especially since the Hwy 407E Phase 1 opened 4 years ago, and Phase 2 last year.
